Study abroad in Italy

Customize your MBA experience by joining a course in Italy! A single course in Italy can be completed in 4 days, spread throughout a pre-determined 2-week period. Eat, live, and breathe Italia as you take a course in our satellite campus located at the foothills of the Dolomite Alps.

Course structure

All classes are taught in English by a professor affiliated with the Tippie College of Business. All classes are 4 days long from 9-6 PM each day, with several breaks and lunch. Professors may assign pre-work prior to the start of class. Depending on the course, you can expect to have course readings, individual assignments, group projects, presentations, quizzes, and class discussions. Within 2 weeks after the final class date, you will take a final exam online in the U.S.

Program costs

The total cost is $2,400 for a single course in Italy. This includes tuition fee, lodging, meals, health insurance, textbook, and other class materials. This does not include your flight to Italy, which typically range between $800-$1,200 round trip, transportation to get to campus, or other personal travel expenses. Program costs will be billed through U-Bill and a cost sheet breakdown can be sent to you upon your request.

Exploring Italy

In between class days, you may have some time to explore surrounding areas. Don't make any travel plans until you get to campus and have a better idea of your class assignments. When traveling, we recommend sticking close to campus. Some great cities nearby include Venice, Verona, Milan, Bassano del Grappa, Possagno, and Vicenza. You can also stay local and hike up Mt. Grappa, sip some Prosecco, and eat some pretty amazing Italian pizza! When in Italia!

Lodging and meals

Our campus is located at the base of the Italian Alps in a small town called Pieve del Grappa. Lodging and meals are covered for the full length of the program. You will stay in an ensuite single "dorm style" room in our residence hall on campus. A twin bed along with linens and towels are provided. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided in our on-campus dining hall. We are able to accommodate dietary needs with advanced notice. If you bring a guest with you, an additional fee for lodging and meals will be added to your total costs.

"Regardless of where you are at professionally, academically, or personally, CIMBA can provide an unparalleled learning experience to positively challenge and transform your way of thinking. It was the perfect additive to my graduate school experience, and it provided the full-circle educational journey I was seeking with the Iowa MBA program. Take a CIMBA class! You will be glad you did."

"I hadn’t planned to take a course in Italy, but when I saw a course that would fit with my schedule, I couldn’t turn it down. I’d never taken an in-person MBA class before so I didn’t really know what to expect. It ended up being the most impactful course in the whole program for me. The students were so friendly and the staff so helpful that any fears I had evaporated. Don’t even get me started on the food and coffee! I came home feeling more invigorated, both personally and professionally. If I could do it a second time, I’d drop everything to make it happen."
