    • Event Description: 
      • Members (and prospective Members) can connect and converse with local peers in the wide world of talent development. 
      • A forum to share your professional development needs and wants with the Hawkeye Chapter.
      • Get a sneak peak of what's coming in 2025 for Members of the Hawkeye Chapter.
      • The chance to win $25 to the restaurant of your choice! At the end of Dine & Dialogue, we will draw TWO winners. Must be present at time of drawing to win.

  • Tuesday, September 10 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. CST (virtual): Business Record - Made in Iowa: Iowa Manufacturing Forecast
    • Event Description: Iowa’s economy is resilient, but challenges remain over labor shortages, ongoing high interest rates, elevated prices and moderating economic growth. A few manufacturers in the state have started reporting some layoffs. During its Manufacturing Forecast, the Business Record will discuss how manufacturing and Iowa’s economy are faring and look ahead to 2025. A panel of leaders from the manufacturing sector will discuss how companies are coping with these challenges, the effects on capital investment decisions and strategies to find and retain skilled workers. We will also discuss how companies are planning as economists forecast fewer interest rate cuts in 2024 than originally projected.

    • Event Description: Join us for coffee, networking, and a tech discussion at West End Architectural Salvage. This month, we're joined by Aaron Horn, Chief Information Officer at Benchmark, Inc.
  • Saturday, September 14 from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (in-person): Young Professional Connection (YPC) Volunteer: Meals from the Market
    • Event Description: Join YPC for a new perspective on the Farmer’s Market! We will be volunteering with DMARC’s program Meals From The Market.  The Meals From The Market program, which began in 2009, aims to provide fresh, local produce to food pantries in the Greater Des Moines region. Volunteers with Meals From The Market canvass The Market, asking vendors if they would like to donate any unsold produce to the program. At the end of The Market, volunteers then collect and load donated produce into a truck, and it is distributed throughout the DMARC Food Pantry Network.
  • Thursday, September 19 from 7:45 - 8 a.m. (online): DSM Partnership - The Partnership's 15 in 15
    • Event Description: Please join us for us for the Q3 15 minute virtual briefing for Investors and Affiliate Chambers. We designed this format for efficiency with your busy schedule in mind. We are aiming to arm you with 15 updates in 15 minutes regarding our progress throughout the region and what’s on deck moving forward in the fourth quarter.

    • Event Description: Join us for Layers of Connection: Exploring Diversity in Art, a free guided tour at the Des Moines Art Center for Young Professionals. This event invites you to delve into the rich layers of cultural identity and diversity through the lens of art. As we journey through the exhibits, we'll uncover how art serves as a powerful medium to express the myriad ways in which we connect with ourselves, our communities, and the world around us.

      Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply curious about exploring new perspectives, this tour offers an opportunity to reflect on the diverse experiences that shape our identities.     • Event Description: This event will be FREE for anyone around the metro who works in tech or loves tech. Come meet new people, reconnect with old friends, and see how amazing our tech community is. Live music, an open bar, and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided.
  • Tuesday, October 1 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. (in-person): Young Professionals Connection - Stories of Young Professionals (Sponsored by Tippie Graduate & Professional Programs in Des Moines)
    • Event Description: Join us for an inspiring storytelling event where three young professionals will share the personal journeys that have shaped who they are today. Through their stories, we'll explore the challenges they've faced, the cultures that have influenced them, and the passions that drive them forward. In collaboration with CultureALL, this event emphasizes the radical act of listening with love and respect. By hearing these stories, we will create a space where we can appreciate the unique perspectives within our community and recognize that, despite our differences, we all share common ground. As emerging leaders, knowing and sharing our stories is essential to building a community of belonging.  Join us for an evening of powerful stories, deep reflection, and meaningful connections.
  • Thursday, October 17 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. (in-person): Des Moines Data & Analytics - Measuring Bias in Machine Learning Models
    • Event Description: Principal Financial Group is committed to investing in Ethical and Responsible AI. The Data Science team within the Retirement Business Unit has developed models to support the marketing of retirement accounts. One aspect of this work has been the development and testing of bias and fairness metrics in AWS to ensure that protected classes – specifically age, gender, and race – are not subject to discrimination. During this presentation, Data Scientists Jordan Beck and Kevin Cottrell will share specific strategies to calculate bias metrics, compare metrics against set thresholds, discuss mitigation approaches when bias exceeds thresholds, and incorporate an understanding of bias into business processes. This event is being hosted by Murugan Nambiar, Tippie Adjunct Instructor in Business Analytics.
