Welcome to Tippie Graduate & Professional Programs

Welcome to the Tippie community—we're glad you're here! Before your first class begins, there are a few key steps to complete. We've organized everything to make it easy to get started, along with resources and services you can access at the bottom of the page.

Getting started

Step 1. Schedule an advising appointment

Schedule an advising appointment with your academic advising team, assigned by geographic location.

Your advising team can help answer your questions, create a personalized course plan, discuss your experiences, and review your progress toward degree and/or certificate completion.

Step 2. Activate your HawkID and University of Iowa email account

Set up your HawkID: After submitting your admissions application to the program, you should have received an email from the Office of Admissions (be-a-hawkeye@uiowa.edu) with instructions for setting up your HawkID and password. To manage your HawkID, visit HawkID Tools

Note: The HawkID set up email is sent to the email address used when you applied and sometimes lands in a junk/spam inbox.

University of Iowa (UI) email: Once your HawkID is activated, log in to your Office 365 account using HawkID@uiowa.edu in the username field and your HawkID password. Program communications will be sent to your university email address, so please check it frequently to ensure you don't miss information, or forward your email to an inbox you monitor regularly.

Please allow up to 24 hours after activating your HawkID for access to all University of Iowa systems, including email.

Step 3. Complete New Student OrientationAll students are required to complete the online, self-paced New Student Orientation course. Orientation is designed to guide you through an overview of program details and important steps to prepare you for your first semester.

Once your HawkID is activated and your admission has been fully processed through all the University of Iowa systems, you'll gain access to the course within approximately 2-3 business days. An email invitation will be sent to your uiowa.edu email account from "University of Iowa <notifications@instructure.com>" with the subject line: Course Invitation.

Computer requirements & software

We recommend using a computer that meets the specifications outlined on the Computer System Recommendation page. For additional technology considerations, visit the Technology for Online Courses page.

Need Microsoft Office?  University of Iowa students can access popular software for a fraction of the retail price through the Campus Software Program. If you only need access temporarily, you can use Virtual Desktop to run the program(s) online. Visit the ITS Software page for details.
